The Classic Era Grue-Crew delves into the noir realm with THE HITCH-HIKER (1953), a "horror adjacent" film noir directed by Ida Lupino. Starring William Talman, Edmund O'Brien, Frank Lovejoy, and Jose Torvay, it offers a chilling tale of a psychopathic escaped convict hitching a ride.

S01E102 The Hitch-Hiker

The Classic Era Grue-Crew and guest host Bill Grabriel all agree THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955) is a brilliant film when viewed as a Brothers Grimm-type fairy tale seen through the eyes of the central child character.

S01E114 The Night of the Hunter - Movie Review

Season 1

The Classic Era Grue Crew admires another Mexican gem, The Skeleton of Mrs. Morales, made by an award-winning crew with an award-winning cast. Check out our discussion about this story of a darkly comedic murder, and while you're at it, check out the movie.

S02E131 Video Review - The Skeleton of Mrs. Morales

Season 2

Toho films & d.Ishira Honda (GODZILLA,1954) blend sci-fi, horror, film noir, & cabaret into horrifying shenanigans featuring liquid men.The Grue-Crew is joined by guest-host Chris Peters (AKA Jose) as they review this unusual yet highly entertaining entry! Enjoy!

S04E173 Video Review - THE H-MAN

Chris Peters joins the Grue Crew for this police procedural-occult horror with spy gadgets and zombies. This wonderful mashup from Mexico brings good acting, a well-told, complicated story, strong female characters, and the devil himself. Enjoy our talk!

S04E177 Video Review - DR. SATAN

Director Edgar G. Ulmer, star John Carradine, and an accomplished cast and crew turn this poverty row effort into an effective and atmospheric tale with unexpected charm. Enjoy the Grue-Crew's, Jeff, Daphne, and guests Michael Zatz and Gregory Crosby's rousing talkabout!

S04E179 Video Review - BLUEBEARD

Peter Cushing, Donald Pleasence, George Rose, and Billie Whitelaw steal the show in this story of Burke and Hare from John Gilling. The supporting cast is equally impressive as is the portrait of 1820s Edinburgh. The Grue Crew has much to discuss. Enjoy our talkabout!

S04E189 Video Review - THE FLESH AND THE FIENDS

Lon Chaney Jr. has the title role in INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN, 1956, and emotes the hell out of this near wordless part. He’s supported by many of the usual excellent 1950s character actors and the chopped-up script still makes sense, sort of. Enjoy our talkabout!

S04E190 Video Review - INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN

KISS ME DEADLY, 1955, is horror adjacent science fiction film noir adapted from Mickey Spillane's novel. The film features phenomenal direction, cinematography, writing, and performances. And a search for the great whatsit! There's soo much to discuss!

S04E192 Video Review - KISS ME DEADLY

Season 4

Starring Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee, Francis Matthews, and Betta St. John with a bevy of British character actors in support, this is a story of addiction, murder, and cadaver selling. Shades of Burke and Hare! There is so much to talk about! Enjoy!

S05E205 Video Review - CORRIDORS OF BLOOD

This is an adjacent film, a horror-adjacent film, a film noir-adjacent film, a Jekyll-Hyde-adjacent film... The decidedly noir-style cinematography and lighting, Bernard Herrmann’s brilliant score, the acting, and several seriously disturbing scenes make it worth a watch. Enjoy our talkabout!
